I grew up around paint. As a child, I remember my dad coming home from work in his paint clothes and discussing the day's project around the dinner table. Paint vans, paint cans, and painters were ever present. At thirteen, I started to work summers, moving drop cloths around and supporting the professionals my father employed. During college, I stuck to a Tuesday through Thursday schedule so I could drive up from Cal Poly to work weekends.

When I graduated college I didn’t have an interest in taking over the family business, so I decided to move abroad to work in international trade. However, in 2009 I was drawn back to California as the economy collapsed and the family business was struggling. Upon returning home I finally realized what a great opportunity I was blessed with. I had a mentor with 40 + years of experience in my father, a brother that was supportive and had a set of complimentary skills, and a company with an extraordinary reputation. I started to enjoy the fact that I could work with my family, hire like-minded painting professionals, and build upon a proud painting tradition.

While these last four years have been a challenge and a lot of hard work, it has been incredible to see our 50 year-old family company not only survive this economic slowdown, but come out of it stronger than before. It has also been amazing to notice that, although a lot has changed over the years, one thing has remained constant: the main topic at family meals continues to be our current painting project.
